Exploring New Learning Resources

Over the past several months, the West Bend School District (WBSD) Teaching and Learning Department, along with dedicated math teachers, has been evaluating new math resources for students in grades 6-12. This review process focused on identifying materials that enhance instructional practices and improve student achievement.

After a rigorous screening process and multiple progress reports to the Curriculum Committee of the West Bend School Board, the recommended math resources are:

  • Grades 6-8: Illustrative Math – Imagine Learning (Primary Resource)
  • Grades 9-12: Illustrative Math – Kendall Hunt (Primary Resource)

Additionally, a separate team has been assessing potential English Language Arts (ELA) resources for fifth grade. The district previously adopted Amplify CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) for grades K-4, with full implementation this past year.  As the district transitions to serving fifth grade within elementary schools, aligning ELA instruction across grades K-5 has become a priority.

We encourage families and community members to preview the proposed materials and share their feedback. Both the math resources and English Language Arts resources are available for viewing at the Education Service Center March 31-April 11 and the West Bend Community Library March 31-April 13.

Two 4K Nature-Based Programs

The West Bend School District's 4K program has two nature-based programs that are both operated in partnership with the Kettle Moraine YMCA. Students in these 4K programs spend two days a week at a regular 4K location and two days a week at a nature site.  In fall 2025, the program that is currently held at Holy Trinity and Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg will move the nature-based portion of the program to the West Bend School District Outdoor Science Education Center, located across River Road from the high schools building. The other program is held at Trinity Lutheran and Camp Silver Brook in West Bend.

Review the Early Learning Program website to find more information and to enroll in 4K.

Student Chromebook Info

All students in grades K-12 (in person and virtual through West Bend Virtual Academy) receive a district-owned Chromebook for student use during the school year. Even if the family has its own laptop, we ask that you get the Chromebook for the student as they will use it while in the school (with in person instruction) and it will be used for testing and assessment.

Hot Spots
If you are in need of a district hot spot to support your student’s instruction for the 23-24 school year, please complete the form linked HERE. Hot spots will be made available on a first come first served basis. Please note that hot spot data is limited and should only be used for instructional purposes only.
